Jordan Rugby an associate member of ARFU
In its full council meeting held in Bangkok on Friday 13th of June 2008, the Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) Council has unanimously agreed to accept Jordan Rugby Union as an Associate Member of ARFU, pushing Jordan Rugby even onward on its road to professionalism.
The Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU), which is the governing body of rugby in Asia under the authority of the International Rugby Board, was founded in 1968 by eight charter nations. The Union today has 25 member nations in countries across Asia, stretching from the Arabian Gulf to Guam and Mongolia to Indonesia. The aim of ARFU has never changed: "to raise physical and moral standards in Asia by education in the healthy pursuit of Rugby Football and to promote friendship among Asian countries."
ARFU also supports regional and pan-Asian tournaments, including women's, men's, and under 19's competition in both sevens and fifteen-a-side rugby, giving the proud players of Jordan Rugby the long-awaited opportunity to meet bigger and more diverse challenge.
This great step of recognition comes in realization of ARFU's sacred mission as a Rugby Football Union which is the popularization and spread of the game across the region and the support of youth rugby and teams, coaching and referee development.
